Dental disease is a lifelong issue for all pets. The good news is we can slow or prevent this disease with daily care. If you have a puppy or kitten, teaching them to allow teeth brushing will be an amazing way to promote a healthy mouth environment. Based on veterinary oral exams – we can attempt to visualize if there are any signs of disease in the mouth. But hands down, an anesthetized oral exam and cleaning is the gold standard to assess oral health. It is the gold standard as we are able to assess each individual tooth from all surfaces and check for radiographic evidence of disease that we are not able to see with the naked eye.
